He used to genuinely take great care of his subjects. He used to meet his subjects regularly to know their whereabouts. Once a month, he used to invite distinguished citizens to his court, honour those people and also discuss stately matters with them. People were also free to directly communicate their issues with the king. The king was respected not only in his kingdom but also in other states. One day, the king ordered his commander that this time he wanted to talk to a few selected people who can guide and discuss the betterment of their state. Few people came up with good suggestions that were beneficial for the state, society and also for the king. A decent handsome and rich young man also came to meet the king. As soon as the young man reached the king, first, he took blessings by touching the king’s feet, then took off ten gold rings out of his fingers and handed them over to the king.
The king was baffled by his action and asked the young man what and why he was doing this. The young man respectfully stood in front of the king and said, “Maharaja, I have understood life very well now. We should use all these fingers in the interest of the state not to decorate and show off our wealth.” The king asked the young man to explain what he meant by that. The young man said politely, “Sir, these are the ten rings (lust, anger, madness, greed, ego, jealousy, malice, laziness, deceit, and stubbornness). Now I want to get rid of them all and do good Karmas. I want to do something for society.” The King was very much pleased with this gesture and ordered the commander to melt the ten rings and make a statue of humanity that can spread the message of joy, unity and love.
