Rani Laxmi Bai, also named the Rani of Jhansi, was a famous icon in the Indian Revolt of 1857. She is considered one of the greatest revolutionaries in India. She was born on 19 November 1828 in the municipality of Varanasi. Her actual name was Manikarna Tambe, and she was called as Manu for short. Her father's name was Moropant Tambe and her mother's name was Bhagirathi Sapre. They belonged from current day Maharashtra. When Manikarna was just four years old, her mother, Bhagirathi Sapre had passed away. Her father Moropant Tambe was the Commander of War under Peshwa Baiji Rao II of Bithorr District . She was educated at home; she could read and write and was more self sufficient in her childhood than other children of her age. She was able to shoot properly , she was able to ride a horse properly and she was an expert in archery. In 1842, when Manikarna Tambe was forteen years old, she had married to the Maharaja of Jhansi Raja Gajadhar Rao. After marrying Raja Gajadhar Rao, Manikarna Tambe was known as Rani Laxmi Bai. In 1851, Rani Laxmi Bai and Raja Gajadhar Rao had a son named Damodar Rao. But when Damodar Rao was just 4 months baby, he lost his life. In 1853, Raja Gajadhar Rao had passed away but before his death, Raja Gajadhar Rao and Rani Laxmi Bai had adopted Raja Gajadhar Rao's cousin's son whose name was Anand Rao, by renaming him as Damodar Rao. Rani Laxmi Bai was known for her excellent bravery who was necessary identity in the freedom struggle against the British. This part focussed her notable tasks carried out against the British Government to satisfy the dream of a Free India. On 22nd April 1812, Lord Dalhousie decided to capture Jhansi when Maharaja Gajadhar Rao had passed away when he had appealed the Doctrine of Lapse as the King didn't have any biological son. In accordance with Rani Laxmi Bai was allowed to leave the palace. The Revolt of 1857 had occured in Meerut and Rani Laxmi Bai was ruling over Jhansi as the director of her minor son. In 1858, British, under the command of Sir Hugh Rose, had entered Jhansi Fort to capture Jhansi and ordered that the city should be under the control of Britishers orelse Jhansi would be damaged forever. Rani Laxmi Bai rejected and told that Indians want free from Britishers. In the words of Lord Krishna Indians are winners, enjoy the fruits of winning , if lost Indians should earn a permanent glory and preservation. After two weeks, the war continued, and Rani Laxmi Bai led her army men and women firmly against the British people. Though fighting intelligently, she was defeated in the war. Rani Laxmi Bai had eloped to Kalpi by tying her son to her back and riding a horse. Tanyta Tope and other freedom fighters had seized the fort of Gwalior along with Rani Laxmi Bai. Subsequently, she continued to Morar Gwalior to fight with British. On 18th June 1858 while fighting with the Britishers Rani Laxmi Bai had lost her life .
