Once upon a time, the domain of Mathura was ruled by an evil ruler, Kansa. He was cruel and uncharitable to his subjects. He had a sister, Devaki, the biological mother of Lord Krishna whom he adored very much . But according to a prophecy, the 8th child of Devaki would murder King Kansa. After hearing those words, King Kansa imprisoned his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudev in prison. He also declared that all the children of his sister Devaki and Vasudev must be murdered quickly after they were born. The eighth child of Devaki and Vasudev was none other than Lord Krishna. By the grace of god Krishna was retrieved from the prison the night after he was born. King Kansa had discovered that the baby Lord Krishna had run away from the prison, but he was not confident enough about where Lord Krishna was. Determined to exclude the one fated to kill Lord Krishna, Kansa thought to seek the assistance of the dreadful rakshasi Putana, who lived in a cave far down the forest. When King Kansa stepped into the cave of Putana rakshasi , she was doing sorcery . The rakshasi Putana had long, messy hair, and long, spoon-shaped fingers. She had a long teeth bulging out of her mouth. Her tongue was red like blood. She was dressed in animal skin and was tall like a camel. When rakshasi Putana saw King Kansa, she admired him with respect. King Kansa told Putana rakshasi that King Kansa didn't know where Lord Krishna exactly was . So Putana should exclude every child below ten days old in his entire kingdom. As she was an aggressive lady, she gladly accepted the job. She was excited by the heartfelt invitation to scare the entire territory. She knew this would instill fear in the hearts of the people in the territory. They would be alarmed even at the mention of her name. King Kansa notified her that she must take precautions while handling the activities, as the child was not an ordinary child but considered the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu. The rakshasi Putana quickly began her journey. She began murdering babies in the nearby territories. Sensibly, she entered the houses and grabbed the babies when their mothers were sleeping or busy with household chores. She would take the babies of primitive parents who were working in the fields. People of Mathura and nearby territories were saddened because they had lost their babies. In her pursuit to remove all the kids in the territory , rakshasi Putana had reached the village. She reached the village after sunset so that no one could understand her. When she entered the village, the people were discussing about the newborn baby of Yashoda and Nandaraj who was none other than Lord Krishna which was the child whom King Kansa had sent her to kill . In the morning, she disguised as a beautiful lady and came to the house of Lord Krishna and she told to Yashoda that she will breastfed Lord Krishna. She elevated Lord Krishna in her arms and stepped outside. She believed that Lord Krishna would die immediately after sucking her milk just like the other kids, but Lord Krishna grabbed her and hit her where she fell down and died. The villagers were surprised to see that Lord Krishna was playing happily in the dead body of the rakshasi Putana .
