Though Sri Bamakhepa was famously known for devotion to Goddess Kali , he was an excellent Mother admirer and modern of Sri Ramkrishna, so he should be noticed. He adored Sri Ramkrishna in the form of Tara and became a popular Tantrik monk, perfecting sadhana at the Tarapith burial ground. In West Bengal, Tarapith is too hard to get to, and so only few people from foreign countries have visited the earlier supernatural center. Tarapith is located in the district of Birbhum, the residence of the bauls and the motherland for popular Vaishnava and Shakta monks. He was born in 1837 in the village of Alta in Tarapith. Though his parents lived in poverty, but his father, Sarvananda Chatterjee, and his mother Rajkumari Devi, were prominent and admired for their devotions. His actual name was Bama, but as he exhibited no interest in the sophisticated matters from his childhood, people called him as a crazy person and added the name Khepa. Khepa is a term mostly used by the tantrics and bauls and does not usual stupidness. The person who is called as Khepa means the person is kind-hearted by nature. When he was small, he had a specific habit. At midnight, he used to go to his neighbour's house, steal the pictures of gods and goddesses and take them on the bank of the river . There he used to pray to the photos every night. In the morning, when people couldn't find the photos, they would shout. Bamakhepa had done basic schooling, and as his parents didn't have enough money, they didn't send him to a faraway place for his studies. He had lost his father, Sarvananda Chatterjee, at a young age, so his mother Rajkumari and his widowed elder sister were the one who taught him any type of moral instructions. They narrated to him the tales of Ramayana and Mahabharata, and it was due to their hard work that he had developed a moral point of view at a young age. He liked to sing religious songs which he became good at it to the gratification of his mother and his sister . Financial distress affected their family, and Bamakhepa and his brother was sent to his uncle's home, where Bamakhepa and his brother had to do a lot of tasks and also had to look after the cows . When Bamakhepa's uncle had seen Bamakhepa could not able to do those things, he was sent back to his mother. He was unfit to do any sort of tasks. The only thing he wanted to do was to pray to Goddess Tara. Whenever he saw a red hibiscus flower, he thought of Goddess Tara. When he said Goddess Tara, he became unaware of his surroundings. Even his mother, Rajkumari, thought that he was a crazy boy, so she kept him in house arrest. But subsequently, he left the house, swam across the river Dwarka, and went to Tarapith via walk. Soon he went to the house of Kaliaspati Baba who was a tantrik, and Kaliaspati Baba accepted Sri Bamakhepa as his disciple. He started living in Tantrik burning ghats surrounded by snakes, dogs , cats and jackals. After hearing his mother Rajkumari Devi's death he immediately went by swimming across the river.
