Wisps of Smoke

(A love, romantic, psychological and paranormal thriller)

By

Kotra Siva Rama Krishna

“As you wish. I never object whatever you do say.”

Later Abbakara helped Sahay to start his own business and with his active support it did not take much time to Sahay to become richest person not only in that entire town but in the entire state also.

“I am very happy. I never have thought that I could become this much big in my life.” On that day he could not remain without expressing his gratitude. “How I can repay even a little to you?”

“Your dad used to be a right hand to me. He helped me in many ways and I always wanted to help his family.” Sahay felt odd on hearing that. He always could help their family, he knew very well where they were but he never tried to until he came to him for his help. “As I have been always busy especially as your father was not with me, I could not do anything to you people.”

“That does not matter.” Sahay smiled. “Still the help you did to my family is not small. My sister and I are quite well off by this.”

“I want only a little favour from you for all the help I did.” Sahay still could remember the expression in his face at that time and the very purpose in his mind to help him so was appearing to surface soon. “If you intend, you really can do that.”

“I am very eager to hear that.” Still struggling in himself to guess what it was Sahay said. “And just think I did that favor to you.”

“I know you say it like this.” Suddenly he stooped forward in the chair and fixed his gaze even more on the face of Sahay and his forehead gathered even more frowns. “Will you marry Niyoja, my only daughter?”

Sahay for a moment could not understand what he was hearing! In his whole life he never has expected that he would ask like that. Niyoja was not just a daughter of very richest person but very beautiful also. Even she was in a very poor family without having any money, anyone would feel so happy to marry her.

“I just cannot understand sir, I just cannot understand.” He could not keep his voice without faltering. “If you want, you can get her a better person than I.”

“But I want you to be the husband of her than anyone else. Tell me, will you please marry my daughter and look after her well? I looked after her so well and never let her suffer for anything.”

“I am promising you sir that I do just in the way you asked me.”

Sahay would not have objected to marry Niyoja even she was not beautiful woman and even she was a very poor girl for the help Abbakara did to him. But when she has both those qualities also, what was there indeed to object?

Abbakara did not take much time to perform his daughter’s marriage with Sahay. He did not take much time for that also to leave this world once again taking a promise from Sahay that he would look after his daughter well. It was just one month or so that his marriage with Niyoja and Abbakara left this world leaving his last penny also to that couple.

But in just that one month itself, Sahay understood one thing quite clear! His wife Niyoja has been suffering from a serious psychological disorder! He then understood the purpose behind the expression of Abbakara in helping him all along. Only after the death of him, the mask went off and he could see that purpose crystal clear. She would be looked after well, protected well only if she was with Sahay which Abbakara so strongly felt Sahay understood.

Sahay could not feel any anger either on Niyoja or on his father. Still the help Abbakara did to him was not small. Just because of that help, he could make his precious sister to do whatever she wanted in her life. He was ready to suffer all along his life and he was still feeling very much grateful to Abbakara for the help he did to him.

“I did not know whether to feel happy or sorrow that I have chosen to become a psychiatrist.” Devayani said. “How ironical it is that my first patient is your wife and my first and only failure also is she.”

“It is just like that you foresaw the necessity of treating your own sister in law.” The despairing expression in his face and sorrow in his voice were moving Devayani.

“But to serve what purpose? I am a miserable failure so far in treating her.” Her voice turned sad and she knew very well how much her brother liked his wife.

“I atleast have the satisfaction that she is in the best hands. I don’t think that any other psychiatrist do better than you to her.”

“Sometimes I think” she paused for a moment “she would have become cured if she were in any other psychiatrist’s hands. May be I am missing something or I don’t know something which is necessary to cure her.”

“To think like that also” Sahay sighed heavily “you are not the only psychiatrist who is looking after her in your mental care. You have made some other outside famous psychiatrists also to have a look at her along with Prabodh who is no less famous and reputed than you.”

“But her prime and main psychiatrist is only me all the time. If some other capable psychiatrist played that role in my place….”

“Stop thinking like that and try to see what exactly is the problem with her. It is really surprising to me that a famous and skillful psychiatrist like you cannot come out with anything regarding her madness.” Her brother leaned back in the chair and said.

They both were in his mental care at that time and talking in themselves about his wife as they did many a time in the last four years or so after Niyoja was admitted in that hospital. Sameera was three years old whereas Pradeep was one year old or so by then.
