પ્રભાતના શાંત વાતાવરણમાં રોજ નિયત સમયે સાઇકલની ઘંટડીનો સ્પષ્ટ અવાજ સંભળાતો હતો. માયા માટે આ અવાજ હવે મીઠો રણકાર બની ચૂક્યો હતો. શેરીના નાકેથી અવાજ શરૂ થતો અને માયાની પલંગથી ઝરૂખા સુધીની પદયાત્રા શરૂ થતી. ઘર નજીક પહોંચતા જ કેયૂરની સાઇકલની બ્રેક ખેંચાતી અને સાઇકલની ગતિ અટકી જતી. તે જ સમયે ઘરની મેડીના ઝરૂખાની બારીને ધક્કો વાગતો અને તે ખુલી જતી. સમાન તીવ્રતાથી બે વ્યક્તિ આ ક્રિયાઓમાં સામેલ થતી. ઉપર-નીચે, સામ સામે, એકબીજાને નિહાળતા કુલ ચાર ચક્ષુઓ સ્થિર થતા - રોજની જેમ. બે પળ બાદ છાપાનો મંદ ઘા થતો અને તે ઝરૂખે ઝીલાતું - મોટાભાગે. કેયૂરે જાણે દીદાર પ્રથા લાગુ
