( শ্রী শ্রী ঠাকুরের এক দয়ার কাহানি ) অন্ধকারের সঙ্গে প্রথম পরিচয় ধনবাদ জেলার কয়লানগরীর কাছে একটি বড় বাঙালি কলোনি ছিল। তার চারপাশে টিন, প্লাস্টিক আর খড়ের ছাউনি দিয়ে তৈরি অসংখ্য ঝুপড়িঘর ছড়িয়ে ছিল। ভোর হতেই পুরো বস্তি জেগে উঠত— কোথাও কয়লার কালিতে মাখামাখি মহিলারা জল ভরছে, কোথাও আধভাঙা চটি পায়ে বাচ্চারা স্কুলে দৌড়চ্ছে, আবার কোথাও শ্রমিকেরা হাতে টিফিন নিয়ে কারখানার দিকে রওনা দিচ্ছে। এই কোলাহলময় বস্তিতেই মৌসুমী ব্যানার্জী তার স্বামী সঞ্জয় মণ্ডল এবং দুই বড় হতে থাকা মেয়েকে নিয়ে থাকত। সঞ্জয় হিন্দুস্তান পেট্রোলিয়ামের গাড়ি চালাত। রোজগার মন্দ ছিল না। কিন্তু তার সবচেয়ে বড় সমস্যা ছিল—নেশা।
