(પ્રકરણ એક)ટન… ટન…. ટન…..ટન…ટન….ટન… અડધી રાત્રીના સન્નાટાને ચિરતો લોલક વાળી મોટી ડંકા ઘડિયાળ ના એક પછી એક બાર ટકોરા નો અવાજ ઠાકુર રાયસિંગની એ જુની પુરાણી મસમોટી હવેલીમાં ગુંજી ઉઠ્યો …રાત્રીના બાર વાગી ચુક્યા હતા એટલે હવેલીના ખખડધજ ઝાપાને બરાબર ડાબી તરફ અડીને આવેલ નાનકડી ઓરડીમા હજુ હમણાંજ સુતેલ એ ગોરખા ચોકીદારે એક લાંબુ બગાસુ ખાઇને પાસુ ફેરવ્યુ.. એટલે હવેલીના કંપાઉન્ડમા આવેલ જુના પીપળાના ઝાડપર બેઠેલ ઘુવડ એક વિચિત્ર અવાજ કરતુ ઉડીને હવેલીની બરાબર ઉપરની ટોચ પર જઇને બેઠુ.
