Nishty - 10. Farewell Party

Nishith came to the office in a totally different mood today. On one side he was sad because he was leaving the organisation but on the other, he was excited as he was about to begin a new phase in life. Upon his arrival, he first met Rajesh and had a chat with him. He then proceeded towards his desk to switch on his computer. He suddenly recalled that he had not checked his e-mail yesterday and so he checked his mail and upon signing in he began jumping with joy.

“Now it's official” uttering these words he jumped in excitement. He called his parents up to share with them the official news and then receiving their blessings again he took the advice of his dad to submit his resignation.

Even the people sitting around him in the office realized that something was fishy. The girls in the office asked Rajesh what was the matter to which Rajesh replied,” didn't I tell you that a big party is awaiting you? Well the day has finally arrived”. He broke the big news of Nishith’s new job to all.

In the mean time Mr. Shroff, the director of the company, entered. He saw Mr. Trivedi sitting in his chair and sleeping. Trivedi woke him up gently. Seeing Mr. Shroff standing in front, he was feeling a little embarrassed. But Mr. Shroff was in a much lighter mood today…

Mocking Mr. Trivedi he said,” Ek to office mein roj late aate ho, aur aate hi let jaate ho ?'[
As in you arrive late to the office upon arriving you go to sleep]. Now if you are done sleeping lets get to work….Chhel chabilo Gujaratii!!!!”

With these bouncers from Shroff sir, the mood in the office completely changed. All started laughing at Mr. Shroff’s sense of humor. Winking his eyes to Nishit, Rajesh said,” Nishit today sir is in great mood, now is the right time to give him the good news.

Nishith also found the views of Rajesh to be appropriate. Now everybody came to know about Nishith’s resignation so it was bound that Mr. Shroff would also come to know and so he decided to tell him directly rather than anyone else informing him. He decided that immediately after lunch he would tell Mr. Shroff about his resignation. Even during lunch, all started greeting him before him breaking the news to anyone. Without uttering a word, Nishith also started receiving the compliments that was bestowed upon him. Now the lunch break was coming to an end. Rajesh again signaled Nishith to complete this work today itself.

It was now the post lunch phase. It was now time for Nishith to meet Mr. Shroff. He was thinking to himself as to how he would present himself. He was very much worried as to how Mr. Shroff would react to the situation. But sooner or later he had to resign and so he made up his mind and entered Mr. Shroff’s cabin.

“May I come in Sir”?

“yes come in Nishith...have a seat”. Taking his seat Nishith sat in front of Mr. Shroff.

“Yes..tell Nishith….What brings you here today?

“Nothing special work Sir” Nishith replied seemingly confused, still unable to decide how to break the news.

“Tell Nishith...Whatever you wish to say”
“Sir, I would like to resign….” and uttering these words, he placed before Mr. Shroff his resignation letter.

“Ohhh! Adjusting his spectacles Mr. Shroff started to read the letter.” well you have written quite remarkably but the reason you have mentioned is what makes me upset.” What was the problem Nishith??

“Nothing sir...I actually love this job and this company”

then what’s the problem Nishith?

“Well actually there is no problem sir. I always wished to pursue my career in advertising field and now when I actually got a job I could not stop myself.”

“which company are you joining?”

“Sopan Advertising” Replied Nishith and placed his appointment letter on his desk.

Not going to any other competitor, Mr. Shroff breathed in relief, but was upset because it would be very difficult to find a new employee who would work with the same passion as that of Nishith.
Looking at the position and the package that was being offered to Nishith, Mr. shroff understood that it would be of no use to stop Nishith.

“Ok Nishith it is hard to accept this. But I am not here to crush your career...congratulations” uttering these Mr. Shroff wished Nishith.

“Thank you very much sir” replied Nishith as he bowed down to seek the blessings of Mr. Shroff. Patting his shoulders Mr. shroff said ,” May you rise and shine Nishith. And don’t worry about anything. If you ever face any problems, the gates of our organisation are always open for you. Whenever you visit Ahmedabad, do visit all of us here. Many people have left us but you are very special to me among all of them.

“thank you very much sir” replied Nishit who was now very saddened.

“and yes..Sit with Mr. Mehta and discuss about handing over your work”

“Ok Sir”

Mr. Shroff signed the resignation and handed it over to Nishith. 'I accept your resignation. Hand these to the accounts department and collect all the letters you need and get it signed by me.

Thanking Mr. Shroff, Nishith left his cabin. Now as he submitted his resignation letter in the accounts department, all the employees now came to know that Nishith was leaving the company as he had got a better opportunity else where and so all were coming to wish him.

The next day after completing his usual work, Nishith met Mr. Mehta. According to Mr. Mehta, Manoj was now working with a positive attitude as so there would be no hindrance in his work. Nishith asked Mr. Mehta to give an ad for recruitment and recruit the new candidate within a week as he would be available for only a month now.

Nishith you have a very positive attitude, said Mr. Mehta. The way you are working and thinking about the organization is praise worthy. No other person in your place would do the same. I am sure the person who would be replacing you will not face any difficulties as you must have completed all the work.

“yes,...Mehta sir”

“as long as you are here, work along with Manoj so that he may not face any difficulties.”

“yes that’s true. And also as you had already instructed, we are working together for quite sometime now. Even though our motives were different but Manoj has helped me all along and I believe in his strengths.”
“Thats good”
“I also have a suggestion for you if you would like to hear”.
“Yes Nishith....we also respect your views”
“Manoj is a really a talented person. He’s just a bit disturbed due to his personal reasons and I have seen him improving a lot during our personal conversations and to be honest I have learnt a lot from him.”

“How nice of you Nishith”
“yes so if Manoj’s assistant is also promoted and a new recruit is recruited to the maintenance department then it would be great.?”
“Then what we should do with Manoj”?
“well Promote Manoj to the position of Head of maintenance department. I am sure he will do his job very well”.
“wow you are a real gem Nishith...that’s a great Idea.”
“thankyou sir”
“Well you have perfectly assigned new roles to your department staff and have managed it really well to fill your void but even then the company suffers a loss by losing an intellect like you.”

“well sir there is no such thing. Vacancies are filled with the possibility of getting better recruits when one vacates. The ever-changing world and the ever-changing life evolves everyday to bring solutions to its problems. We are just guests for a moment.”

“Well Nishith, your ideals are praise worthy, and also the way you wrote your resignation letter has also gained much attraction among the colleagues. The M.D of your new company is indeed like a jeweller choosing the best jewel.

“that's very true...thanks for the compliments”.

Now after his resignation, Nishith things had changed around him. But he believed that this was not achieved in a day by just waving a wand but rather it was the result of his hard work, dedication and passion.

In the evening Manoj came to meet Nishith.

“Nishith, Mehta sir called me today and told me everything. I humbly thank you for your help in boosting my career.” spoke Manoj with a deep sense of gratitude to Nishith.

“I have not done anything special...you got what you deserved”.

“No No....Nishith...this is your modest nature. This is the greatest gift you have given me which I will cherish throughout my life”.

In the mean time Rajesh arrived in excitement,” Nishith we are now tried of congratulating you...now when are you giving us a treat?”

“Pretty soon”

“well now for the moment have an Ice cream.”

“Ice Cream? Now? Who’s treat?

“In you honour Nishith from my side....a small little treat.”
“Thanks Rajesh. That's really so sweet of you”.Replied Nishith enjoying his Ice cream.

“Well Nishith, as you know I live in the moment and enjoy the little things, and so I gave this treat and therefore you can now assume that what I will be expecting for the party.”

“Yes...Definitely.”

“So where do we arrange the party?”

“You say.”

“No let it be of your choice...”

Nishith chose a traditional themed restaurant. Nishith asked Rajesh to choose the menu and book the restaurant.

“Everything will be done...Don’t worry.”

“well there’s nothing to worry, Its just that I can know how much money to carry along and so that’s the reason...”

“O...K...O...K..”

Next day again there was an ice cream party in the office. This time it was Manoj’s party. As days passed by Nishith began to realise that what he was losing.

“Now Nishith had only two days left in the office. The party was scheduled for evening. Everyone in the office began gossiping about the party....Nishith had estimated around 30 people in the staff would join him for the party. Rajesh had informed Nishith that Shroff sir had instructed him to tell Nishith to bring his parents along in the party. Nishith liked the Idea.

“At last it was evening now and the much awaited party time had arrived. All the gossips of the staff now began to take place in reality. Due to excitement, most of the staff arrived on time. To his amusement, Nishith saw that everyone was now arriving with their families. Some of them were even not the company employee but had joined in uninvitingly. He thought that Rajesh had called people without thinking as he had given this job to Rajesh and further did not discuss anything with him. “Well no problem any how...it will be party to be cherished forever...” thought Nishith to himself and began welcoming everyone to the party. In the mean time even Shroff sir arrived to the party with his family. Nishith took their blessings and introduced his parents to them.

“You have a very talented son...you are indeed lucky that you have such a jewel.”

“Yes..you are absolutely correct. Its the result of God’s blessings and his hard work and passion.”

“Well its also the knowledge that you have imparted into him that has played an important role.”

“And he’s even lucky...to have found a hard-working and passionate mentor in you.”

Nishith being an introvert did not like to hear his own praises and so he silently escaped from them.

Dressed in a traditional village outfit the waiters were full of energy in welcoming all the guests.

The soft music added joy to the charm of the cold evening. All according to their respective tastes were savouring the delights of the evening. While some were having lemonades the others enjoyed their sips of fruit juices. The puppet show and the plays of Ramayana were a splendour attraction of the evening. Some were on the dance floor while others were enjoying the traditional village plays that were being played. The mood of everyone was now up the bar. After sightseeing of the majestic restaurant, everyone occupied their places on the traditional made cots placed in the centre of the lush green lawn. Folk songs now took the place of the soft music. The welcome juice was still being distributed. After a while the manager of the restaurant came in and invited everyone respectfully to join in the dinner.

Wow! What a majestic sight it was to see the dining hall. It was as if everyone was taken aback to the beginning of time. The stool was so beautifully designed that it could easily accommodate the guests along with the complete dinner platter. All occupied their places as per their own convenience.

And finally it was dinner time. Bread baked from maize and bajra..sweet bread...pickles of all types...vegetables...fruits...and a bunch of traditional cuisines were the major centre of attraction. Oh what a taste. Every one enjoyed. After the dinner it was now ice cream time. Mouth freshners were an added feather to the cap. After such a dinner all came back to the lawn and occupied their seats. It was now time for Gujarati folk music and last but not the least to ever ones amusement it was time for garba.

After the garba, all greeted each other and were now proceeding to their homes. Nishith called aside Rajesh and enquired about the payments to be made.

“Well the bill has already been paid..you don’t worry”

“OK well then how much did the bill amount to?” and saying this Nishith reached towards his pocket to pay the amount.

“Well I already told you that the payment has been made... you don’t worry.”

“yes but I was hosting the party and so it is I who should be paying”.

“No... you don’t have to pay”

“I don’t need to pay? So what the party was not from me?”

“NO”

“so who gave this party?”

“It was from Shroff sir”.

“what are you saying? This is not done.”

“well it is”

“so why did you kept on asking me everything?”

“well it was Shroff sir who had asked me to do so because he wanted to give the party as per your wishes. He had already given this work to me. And now you say,”How was the party.”?
“Don’t ask me anything. I am speechless”.

Nishith went to Shroff sir to thank him. He was indeed speechless. Even Nishith’s parents came to know about this gesture of Shroff sir. They too joined their hands in thanking him...
