Almost Ours
Episode 1 — The Love She Believed In
The television was playing in the hall.
She was sitting nearby with her books open, trying to study. The movie playing on the television was only background noise to her. Her attention was supposed to be on her books.
Until one particular scene made her stop reading.
She slowly looked up at the screen.
The hero, Shiva, was standing in front of his girlfriend, Kavya. He looked at her with a calmness that made the moment feel different.
Then he spoke.
Shiva:
"It was 27 years to take time to see you so, Now I can't wait, I will spill it."
He paused for a moment.
Then he looked directly into her eyes.
Shiva:
"I love you."
Kavya didn't answer immediately.
She just stood there, looking at him.
And he didn't pressure her.
He didn't ask her to say yes.
Instead, he smiled and said,
Shiva:
"Take your time to give the reply."
She kept watching the television.
Those words touched something inside her.
Twenty-seven years.
He had waited for twenty-seven years to meet the person he loved.
And even after finally confessing his feelings, he was still willing to wait for her answer.
To her, that was love.
Real love.
She didn't know much about relationships. She had never experienced love herself. But that scene gave her an idea of what love should be.
Love should be patient.
Love should be honest.
Love should respect the other person's feelings.
Love should be worth waiting for.
She looked back at her books, but the scene remained in her mind.
She wondered what it would feel like to have someone who could love her with that much patience.
Someone who wouldn't force her.
Someone who would stay even when things weren't easy.
Someone who would wait.
She didn't know it then, but that one movie scene quietly became the standard she carried in her heart.
She wanted something real.
Something genuine.
Something that she could believe in completely.
Not long after that, something happened in her own life that made her think about love in a completely different way.
There was a boy in her school who was her friend.
At first, there was nothing unusual between them.
They were simply school friends.
But slowly, his feelings for her began to change.
He started noticing her more.
Whenever she walked through the school corridor, his eyes would follow her.
If she was standing with her friends, he would sometimes find a reason to stay nearby.
Sometimes she would notice him looking at her from a distance.
At first, she didn't understand why.
Then she began to realize.
He liked her.
And he didn't seem to like her casually.
His feelings were serious.
He admired her.
He liked the way she spoke, the way she behaved, and the way she stayed focused on her own world.
Even the smallest moments involving her seemed important to him.
If she smiled at something, he remembered it.
If she spoke to him, he carried that conversation with him long after it ended.
For him, she had slowly become someone special.
But she didn't know how to see him that way.
To her, he was still her friend.
Nothing more.
Eventually, he gathered the courage to tell her how he felt.
He proposed to her.
She listened quietly.
She understood that he was sincere.
