Buddhas Lamp - 9 - The mystic life

Chapter 9

The mystic life

“Every event that is happening in this universe has a reason. Even an ordinary clapping sound can create a specific vibration in the atmosphere and can penetrate the air and touch the clouds in the sky

Not even a single grass grows in this earth without a valid reason. Behind all the happenings in the earth there is an unknown supreme power.”

Mohan was losing his patience as the time passed slowly….

Raju asked him, “ What, sir... Is the work over? Why did the monk send you out...?”

“I don’t know, Raju...He said he will call. But till now, he didn’t…”

“Shall I go inside and look…?”

“No need...Let him call.”

“Is the work over....?”Raju eagerly asked. Mohan stared at him angrily.

“Sorry, sir…” Raju moved away from there.

The monk called Mohan.

Mohan went eagerly.

“Mr. Mohan, my Guru answered your request. Your son will come by himself looking for you. You need not worry.”

“Will he come...How? How do I know he is my son?”

“Whoever comes to see you with this divine lamp is your son.”

“This …this lamp…? How?”

“Yes. This same lamp. My Guru, said that with this lamp you can identify, who your son is. But, at the same time, you have to give me a promise.”

“What promise?”

“You should not try to call any spirits for any reason using this lamp.”

“Why?”

“It’s my guru’s command. He said that he would help only if you promise.”

“You…”

“Hmm… Tell me...What did you want to say…?”

“Can I trust this?”

“Of course. I’m not saying this with the intention that you should not take this lamp with you. You should return back safe and alive and should meet your son. This lamp should not be misused. For that reason only I’m saying this.”

Mohan remained in silence for a minute. After thinking for a while, he replied, “Okay.”

“It could be very dangerous if you agree now and later break your promise. I warn you!”

“No...I will never change my mind. It’s enough for me if I know who my son is.”

“Then, promise touching this divine lamp.”

Mohan with trembling hands made the promise touching that lamp.

“Good...You shall leave now. A military major will ask you for a lift on the way. Go without stopping the car.”

“Why?”

“He has to roam like that for sixteen days. That is his fate. Do as I say.”

“Okay...Shall I worship this lamp?”

“Of course! You have to do that. That is the atonement for the sins you have committed.”

“Okay, I’ll leave now. Bye!”

“My blessings to you! Let all the days in your life be holy days from now on.”

“You...You said that your days are coming to an end…”

“That’s my fate. I will be buried right here.”

The monk’s answer… The way he said it calmly… everything made Mohan feel indifferent.

As an atheist he even avoided participating in the religious cremonies that took place in his company. Tears welled up now in the eyes of such a person, with thoughts mixed with questions that no one can answer he slowly walked towards his car..

“Oh! How mystic is this life?”

How many things...How many things I have learned here...with amazement, he sat in the car with the mind of a new born baby with pure mind.

The monk said goodbye.

‘What an amazing mental strength he has, knowing that he will die within a few more minutes or hours. He is acting quite normal, Is it humanly possible?’ with these questions in mind, he started his journey.

It was late afternoon and the sun was about to set. The entire area was covered with fog. But suddenly the clouds got darker and it began to rain within no time.

Driver Jawahar stopped the car. In the hair pin bend along the way, he saw a military man standing there. Major Sukumaran!

He stretched out his hand asking for lift. Jawahar looked at Raju. Raju asked Mohan, “Sir, A military man is asking for a lift.”

“No… Go without stopping.”

“Sir, He looks like a senior army personnel…”

“Do as I say Raju, He is not an officer. Don’t stop the car.”

Jawahar rushed the car without stopping.

Mohan turned and looked back through the rear window, he could not find that military man now, he has simply disappeared in to the thin air. All of a sudden the weather changed, the sun shined and a new warm atmosphere welcomed them. That is nature….

Almost after two hours of journey, On the way a procession interrupted their journey.

Jawahar stopped the car.

It was a funeral march.

Many military personnel were there. In the middle of a truck was Major Sukumaran’s photo with a garland.

Raju was shocked seeing that.

“Siirrr…” he said looking at Mohan. He was sitting without any emotions.

Jawahar was astonished.

“What is this, Malik. We saw him alive on the way.?”

“Please don’t say anything now, Jawahar. Start the car.”

The car rushed!

A fifteen-year-old boy Shin Chan was grazing the sheep. Seeing Tu-Shun coming in that way, the boy smiled at him.

Tu-Shun called the boy. He was holding the lamp in his hand, his eyes were concentrating on the lamp.

Tu-Shun gave the lamp to the boy. He was very happy.

Tu-Shun continued to walk. Shin Chan ran to his home which was nearby with the lamp.

An old man was sitting and smoking at the entrance of his home.

The boy was panting heavily as he came running. The old man looked at the lamp.

Shin Chan said “A monk gave this it to me.”

“Oh! Is this old useless lamp such a valuable treasure…? Give it to me…” he snatched the lamp from Shin Chan and stared at it.

“That monk may be a black magician. We should not keep this with us..” he said, as he threw away the lamp.

The lamp fell at a distance on the side of the road.

A street vendor selling some antiques was coming with an old bag on his shoulder….
