Chapter 9

 Gossip

What! Oh my gosh! How could they! It was just a business dinner. I hold my forehead. Who told them? Victor told them. No wonder, I know how he came to know about it.  You go, I will talk to him. I call victor in my cabin. Why you are gossiping like this? It’s not gossip it is true. Did Hannah tell you that? She just talked about this. It was a dinner, understood. Everyone in office knows. How? Can you explain

Mr. Ethan dinner goes like…. Just shup up! and get out. I will complain about you. No issues, I am leaving now and I don’t care. He laughs and bangs the door on my face and I freaked out by thinking that sometimes friendship cost you much as expected.

I already know that Victor is not good for her. He is a shallow, jealous, selfish, flirty and for me he is an asshole. I close the file and order a coffee for myself. While drinking coffee, I thought of teaching him a lesson. I open staff accounts file in which all details were written regarding salary, perks, bonus and leaves. I click on Victor’s details. I get to know that he purchased some articles for personal use last year from our store and didn’t pay a penny although the company rule is that staff has to pay 5% for products. He managed to do this because the accountant was his friend’s so he could hide all his expenses and leaves. He took more than ten leaves last year against the company’s rule and not even a single leave was deducted. Now, I am good to treat Victor well. I go to Mr. Ethan cabin and show all the details. He told me to handle his account well so that he only gets what he deserves. When I come out from his cabin my colleagues Stella and Lily were giving me wicked smile and I know you are going to spoil Lily too but don’t worry Stella next is your turn, bitch. I ignore them. I know, I am not a revengeful person but if someone really piss me off then I can also show my traits.

Being occupied with lot of work, I ask Jimmy one of staff member to give the file to Mr. Victor and ask him to complete it today only. I tell him sternly. Jimmy do as I say. I smile to see his expressions. I check my cell phone; I really wanted to talk to Hannah that she should not tell our things to Victor but stop when  I see the message of Gloria in ‘high school buddies’ group…

How are you? everyone

When will wedding take place?

Any dates?

Hannah replies

Darling, very soon I let you know.

Even mike also wants to know.

Greedy dog! I put my cell phone down and start working on my laptop.

In evening, I get a call from my aunt Darby. Nora, my child how are you? I am fine. What about you? I am not feeling well for so many days doctor is saying that my liver is not working properly. Come this weekend, if possible. I want to discuss some important things. Don’t worry aunt nothing will happen to you; God is not that much cruel. You will be fine. I will come to you. Okay honey, see you soon. She hangs up.

Hey! Grace? you called?

Your phone was busy?

Yaa! I was talking to my aunt. Tell me.

Nothing much as Hannah is complaining that Victor is occupied with so much of work because you are his boss show some mercy on him so that he can spend his last days easily in office. Why didn’t Hannah call me to tell me all this?

You know her, she thinks that maybe you don’t like this.

Grace! Her fiancée spills the beans of my dinner with my boss and whole office thinks that I slept with my boss. I tell in her angry tone.

Oh shit! Damn! This is not good; Hannah would have hold her tongue. Yaa! She must. Now you don’t tell her anything. I will talk to her. Take care. My floor has come. When I was about to unlock my apartment, I see George carrying some bags and locking the door. I smile at him. Are you leaving? I stayed for last night. He said in sad tone. He informs that if his mother will not come back in another fifteen days this apartment will be given to someone else. Mr. Robinson is too professional I try to explain him. No, he is right but the thought of my mother missing makes me scare and brings sense of loneliness. His eyes in tears. If you want you can come inside for a cup of coffee. I wanted to make him feel better.  Okay, he comes inside, I burn the stove and make two cups of coffee. I notice George is handsome and smart with 5’9 height. His eyes green and he looks like a Greek God. I could see the muscles of his arm. He is good in shape. Her wife is damn lucky in bed. Oh no! what am I thinking! He is sad son who is in search of his lost mother. I start the conversation.  I can understand that but don’t lose hope. After all you have a family to take care of. Family? What family? I am single right now. What? But Mrs. Marie told me about her grandson, her daughter in law. You have a home in Switzerland.  I am curious now. No, I don’t have I was in a rehab in New York. Actually, I got in bad company and became a part of drug racket. I was a keen drug addict. I had a girlfriend and she left me. I was totally broken. Then my mother sent me to a rehab. But why did Mrs. Marie tell all these lies? I question him looking into his eyes.

I don’t know why she told you this story. Where are you going? You can stay here until your mother comes back and you should also inform the police so that they can find her with the help of this clue. You are right but I need to go to Scotland as baseball coach. They will transfer me to New York then I can do something about this. So, you are a baseball player. Yes! I was good in my school and college due to drugs addiction I was not selected for nationals. Thanks to my friends, they have offered me a job. He seems happy when he talks about baseball. Friends can be trouble maker sometimes, I felt this today only. I take my cup of coffee. By the way, I am Nora. If you need anything I will be happy to help.  Can I ask you something?  Sure. Is Mrs. Marie having an affair with someone?
