The Angel Inside - 46. A tricky affair

Author's POV

Jay had been lowkey panicking looking at Amy's unconscious figure. All this while he had been blaming himself and felt guilty. Sobbing for an hour, he treated Amy's injured hands again.

He had immediately informed Alex about it because he wasn't sure of Amy's condition. Though Alex was in a meeting, he sent him the doctor's number and a file about Amy's medical history, who had treated her before. A renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Ren is in his 50s.

Contacting him immediately and sending a driver to bring him to the place. And within 30mins, he was standing there in front of Jay. By the time Jay had a good look at Amy's medical history, she had a list of psychological issues.

Dr. Ren scrutinized Jay from head to toe as soon as he opened the door for the psychiatrist. Jay realised he hadn't even tidied up, he was a mess, but shrugged it off and directed him upstairs to the room.

Dr. Ren: I think I have seen you somewhere.

Jay: Maybe on the internet.

He spoke mindlessly, stating the obvious. He was a 'celebrity doctor '. The tag itself felt loatheful to him. He never wanted to be in the eyes of the people.

Dr. Ren: You were at one of my lectures, weren't you? And had too many questions to ask! Gentleman!

Dr. Ren spoke elegantly in all confidence that he wasn't wrong. Jay's eyes widened, it was years ago when he was in college and had attended the lecture. But soon he masked his shocked expression with a straight face. It shouldn't be shocking because Dr. Ren was blessed with a strong memory. Basically, he was a prodigy. If he saw or heard something once, he would remember it for a lifetime.

Jay: it's been years.

Dr. Ren chuckled.

Dr. Ren: wasn't expecting you to be married to someone like Ash.

Jay's eyes held genuine shock.

Dr. Ren: Gentleman, it's obvious. You really love her, don't you?

He remained silent following him behind to the room.

Dr. Ren: I never knew that kiddo would marry someone like you. How do you even tolerate her?

Jay had questions but shrugged them off because currently Amy's well being was more important for him. Dr. Ren checked Amy and after a few minutes he asked Jay what had happened. And Jay had explained every single detail.

Dr. Ren: Listening to your perspective, it's clear she had a panic attack out of trigger.

Jay: You have treated Amy before. Any idea what it could be?

Dr. Ren had been deep in his thoughts.

Dr. Ren: It's been a long time. The first time I found her near her mom's graveyard. She was unconscious, covered up in bruises. Someone really wanted her dead.

She was in coma for a month. Once she woke up, she had no idea what had happened. She had nightmares and had constant panic attacks. So maybe it might have happened that she got her memory back.

Jay gasped.

Jay: It hasn't caused her any damage, right?

Dr. Ren: It depends once she wakes up.

Amy stirred in her sleep, indicating she was about to wake up. Soon, her eyes squint open to Jay and Dr. Ren. She looked at Jay, puzzled by Dr. Ren's presence.

Amy: Why is this Oldman here?

Dr. Ren: So rude of you young lady!

He exclaimed nonchalantly.

Amy: Doctor! Tell him to leave. I'm fine.

Dr. Ren: Which one are you talking about, young lady?

Dr. Ren spoke with a sly smile while Amy seethed her teeth irritated.

Jay: He isn't going anywhere without checking you.

Amy felt silent after hearing the oozing concern and worry in Jay's tone. She knew he had freaked out about the weird situation before.

Dr. Ren smiled, noticing how Amy wasn't protesting against her husband.

Dr. Ren: Just leave her to me for sometime. I need to figure out things as her psychiatrist.

Jay looked at him, being extremely skeptical.

Dr. Ren: Don't give me that look gentleman! I ain't gonna kill her.

He remarked with a laugh while Jay, returned a small smile and glanced at Amy for the last time before leaving the room.

As soon as Jay left, Mr. Ren looked back at Amy.

Dr. Ren: Possessive. Isn't he? Now, spill the tea!

Amy rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Amy: Nothing! Just losing my temper every now and then!

Dr. Ren: Yeah I know. I have seen the remains on your husband.

Her eyes filled with guilt again, remembering her cruel and gruesome act. He was talking about the mark on Jay's neck. Once they were red, but now they have turned a bit blue. She knew if she hadn't controlled herself, within a few seconds Jay would have died.

Amy: I think I need to stay away from him.

Dr. Ren: Will it solve the problem?

Amy:No, but he'll be safe. At first I felt I needed to protect him from everyone else. But now I need to protect him from myself. My ugly self.

Dr. Ren: You did remember something, didn't you?

Amy: I remember what happened that day. It's my stepmom that came a day ago and confessed her shit and doings ever so proudly. She got on my nerves and Jay asked me to apologise for my rude behaviour...

Dr. Ren: And your anger got triggered by your husband.

Amy nodded silently.

Dr. Ren: You need treatment Amy. You took sleeping pills again? You tortured yourself again, didn't you?

Amy: Kinda.

Dr. Ren raised a brow, bringing a small container of pills to her face.

Dr. Ren: You randomly took some pills which are used to treat scrizophenic patients and without a freakin doctor's prescription! Does it look like a joke to you? You could die, young lady.

Dr. Ren huffed in irritation, trying hard to keep cool. He always saw Amy as his daughter. And would always nag her about mannerisms and behaviour.

Amy: I am gonna die anyway. I thought I was hallucinating every now and then.

Dr. Ren looked at her in disbelief.

Dr. Ren: So you thought of randomly taking pills instead of having a visit to me! Ash, like I said before, you need my help! You need time to heal. You can lead a better life with your husband once you heal. You still have got chances and you are pushing it away. You. Need. Treatment.

He emphasized the words but the world felt deaf to Amy's ears.

Amy: No. And nothing is gonna be better here. People are running after me to kill, while I am being a freaking monster and harming him. And even if I heal, and stay with him, it will still be the same. They will harm him too.

Amy replied, speaking to herself.

Dr. Ren: Who would harm you and your husband? You are filthy rich! You got guards, high end security. What else do you need?

Amy sighed, rubbing her temples.

Amy: You won't understand.

Dr. Ren: Why did you marry him in the first place? If you knew he wouldn't be safe and would get hurt.

Amy: It wasn't a plan. I thought...I would divorce him after a month or two and get rid of him. The initial plan was to gain a reputation and quietly call things off, but it's not happening as I wanted.

Dr. Ren: You love him?

Amy felt silent at the question.

Amy: No I don't.

She gulped the lump in her throat, hesitantly.

Dr. Ren's face flashed disappointment, he knew this would hurt Jay a lot. But to convince Amy's stubborn attitude wasn't a cup of tea.

Dr. Ren: It's easy then, let him go! The sooner the better.

Amy stood silent, her mind had been processing all his words, but she couldn't bring herself to decide a divorce. Dr. Ren looked at Amy studying her behaviour. He knew he had struck the right chords. A question that Amy tended to run away from and turned a blind eye to it.

He knew Amy to the roots, after losing everything from family, friends to relatives Amy tended to become too concious or too detached with any relationship. Either she wouldn't let it go or she would never built a relationship. The betrayal that she faced since childhood was now showing its effect.

It was very clear that she was possessive of her husband regarding her dominant personality as always. Thought she never named it love but it was more over an obsession which she wasn't ready to accept. After a few minutes of silence, Dr. Ren changed the topic.

Dr. Ren: what should I tell your dear husband for now? For God's sake, he's worried sick about you.

Amy: Just make up a statement and tell him to give me space. I'll see the rest.

Dr. Ren: He loves you. He will get hurt and the reason would be none other than you.

He looked at Amy with meaningful eyes, trying to create an impact of his words. Glancing at her for the last time, he left.

Amy rose up to her feet, fisting her hands on her hair, being totally frustrated. Releasing a painful sigh, she ruffles her hair back.

Amy: He shouldn't. He needs to hate me. And I will make sure he does.

She whispered to herself. She knew she wasn't a saint. But she her hands were covered in blood. And she can't let it reach to her husband.
