Just for You - 1

   Just for you

        Chapter : 1

August came running in from the rain, her clothes slightly wet and her hair dripping with water. She stopped suddenly when she found herself standing directly in front of Hannah.

Hannah was already angry. The moment she saw August, her expression became even harder. She folded her arms and stared at her with intense irritation.

“Aren’t you losing this job too?” Hannah snapped.

August lowered her head. She didn't dare look directly into Hannah’s eyes.

“Yes…” she whispered.

Her voice was so soft that it almost disappeared beneath the sound of the rain outside.

Hannah let out an annoyed sigh.

“Remember that you are an orphan!” she shouted. “There will be no one to give you credit cards forever. It’s better for you if you understand that!”

Those words hurt August more than she wanted to show. She stood there silently, trying to control the tears that were beginning to fill her eyes.

Hannah turned away from her and walked towards the kitchen.

August slowly stepped backward, wanting to get away from the painful words. She had become used to hearing such things, but that didn't mean they stopped hurting.

Then suddenly—

Knock. Knock.

Someone was at the door.

Hannah stopped walking.

“That must be her,” she said.

The moment August heard those words, something changed in her face. Her eyes sparkled with sudden happiness. She slowly released the breath she had been holding.

“Ruby…” she whispered.

Hannah opened the door.

Ruby stood outside, carrying a small bag. Raindrops glittered on her hair and shoulders. She looked tired from the journey, but the moment she stepped inside, her presence seemed to make the room feel warmer.

Hannah looked at her with an indifferent expression.

“Oh, so you’ve arrived.”

She quickly looked away from Ruby and returned to the kitchen without another word.

Ruby immediately understood that something was wrong.

Her eyes moved toward August.

August stood quietly near the staircase, her face turned downward. She didn't say anything.

Ruby looked at her for a moment but decided not to question her in front of Hannah.

Later that evening, August went upstairs.

The rain had finally stopped. The clouds had slowly moved away, revealing a bright moon in the night sky.

August stood on the balcony, looking down at the quiet street. Everything seemed peaceful, but her mind was anything but peaceful.

Hannah’s words kept repeating inside her head.

You are an orphan.

August lowered her eyes.

A few tears slipped down her cheeks.

She quickly wiped them away, hoping nobody would notice.

A few moments later, Ruby came upstairs.

She noticed August standing alone on the balcony and quietly walked toward her. Under the moonlight, Ruby’s silvery eyes looked exceptionally beautiful.

Ruby placed her hand gently on August’s shoulder.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked.

August remained silent.

Ruby smiled softly.

“Is it what Hannah said?”

August finally looked at her.

Ruby continued, “She says many things like that. If you keep brooding over everything she says, you won't have time for anything else.”

August gave a faint smile, but her eyes were still wet.

Ruby leaned against the balcony railing.

“By the way,” she said casually, “there is a vacancy for a night watchwoman at a company near my house.”

August looked at her with curiosity.

“It offers a good salary,” Ruby continued. “And you get two days off every week. Most importantly, it’s very close to my house.”

“How close?” August asked quietly.

Ruby smiled.

“Just about eight meters away.”

For the first time that night, August almost laughed.

Ruby turned around and began walking toward the stairs.

Then she suddenly stopped.

She looked back at August.

“I will always give you my credit card,” Ruby said. “So don't worry about that.”

August looked at her silently.

Ruby's expression suddenly became more serious.

“But one thing…”

August waited.

“What would you do if I died before you?”

August's eyes widened.

Before August could answer, Ruby smiled again and walked away, humming a little song as she descended the stairs.

August remained alone on the balcony.

She looked up at the moon.

A small smile appeared on her face.

“No,” she whispered softly. “That will never happen.”

Her voice trembled slightly.

“You will never die before me.”

The words disappeared into the quiet night.

August stood there for a few more moments, watching the moonlight spread across the wet streets.

Behind her, the house was silent.

But inside her heart, something had changed.

For the first time that night, August felt that perhaps she wasn't completely alone.

Ruby was there.

And as long as Ruby was there, August believed she could face whatever came next.
