“Why did you have come here?” he asked her.
“Foolish question. Why should not I have come here?” There was no change in her throwing her head back arrogantly.
“Alright. I have no objection. But why you are standing that close to me?”
“I do not stand close to you. I just stand here. Better you go away from me.”
He nodded his head and went away from there.
“I thought that you have left the home of our sister and went away somewhere. But you are still here.” She said.
“Why should I leave the home? Why should I go anywhere else?” Vineet asked her angrily.
“Because you are having no rights to stay in our sister’s family. You are having no relation with my sister’s family.” The pain in Vineet’s face was amusing to Sukanya. “You are an orphan. A street dog. You are living completely upon the mercy of us people.”
He suddenly became quite angry. His eyes became red and there were deep frowns on his face. He came fast near to her and slapped her strongly with his right hand on her right cheek.
Sukanya became more fearful than angry. She did not expect such a reaction in him. He never did dare to beat her like this! “See. I tell this in the house. I shall see that you would be expelled from it in the evening itself.” She turned and ran away from there.
Vineet became quite upset thinking how the consequences were going to be. Anyhow Sukanya was the own sister of Jayanthi and he beat her so. How Jayanthi was going to react to that he could not guess. When Vineet went to home in the evening Jayanthi, Mangaveni and Sukanya were there. Vineet understood Sukanya already told a lot to her mother and Jayanthi by the expressions in their faces. Jayanthi called him near and asked him angrily “Did you beat Sukanya?”
“Did not she say what she has said to me?” Vineet too had become angrier. He was expecting this and prepared to some extent.
Anyhow Jayanthi did not believe fully whatever Sukanya said. She knew very well that Vineet did not beat her unnecessarily.
Then Vineet told her what Sukanya said to him. It was not the first time that Sukanya saying like that to Vineet. But this time he got angry and beat her.
Jayanthi’s face became red with even more anger. She looked at Sukanya with a frown and asked her “Did you say like that?”
“Yes. I did.” She had thrown her head back again.
Jayanthi slapped her both cheeks left and right. “This is not the first time you said it like that. How many times I asked you not to say so to Vineet?” she angrily yelled.
“Would you kill my daughter? Just stop.” Coming near to them Mangaveni also angrily yelled.
“Sukanya. I told you many a time and still I am telling you for the last time. Vineet is not an orphan. He is my son. Just like Madan. He would stay in this house forever. If ever again you try to insult him so, I shall skin you alive.” Jayanthi was shivering with anger.
“You beat my daughter just for an orphan, a servant like boy in your home! He is no more than a servant to us people in this house.” Mangaven yelled this time too.
“Mommy. If that is the opinion of you, you need not come here again. I am not going to tolerate anyone who insults Vineet so.” Jayanthi also became even more angrier.
“There is no necessity to us to come here. We shall move away from here now itself and either me or my daughter never steps into your house again. You too need not come to my home. From now on you are not my daughter, I am not your mother and Sukanya has no relation whatsoever with you.” Mangaveni started from that home immediately taking Sukanya with her.
“Why did you quarrel with aunty so? She is your mother. At the same time there is mistake on my part too.” Vineet said weeping. “Your own sister and mother would not come to your home again because of me.”
“You are my son. If anyone insults you like this I cannot tolerate.” She hugged him and said. “I never bother if they both don’t come to my home forever. If you and Madan are with me like this, that is enough.” Leaving him she said.

Eight or so years have passed after that incident. Either Sukanya or her mother never came here all this time. But occasionally there were phone communications between the two families. Sukanya might be twenty one or so of years aged by now. Even he was feeling awkward to face her, there was an unknown interest in him to see how she would look like then.
After hearing that Sukanya was coming to that home again, Vineet could not feel peaceful and calm. Even after eight years too, he still could remember the way she insulted him and how Jayanthi scolded her. He felt even more bad when Sukanya’s mother took her daughter with her abruptly saying that she would never allow her daughter enter into that house and she too never would come there.
For the first time on that day Vineet could understand how much love and affection Jayanthi developed on him. He did not know whether to feel happy or sad to that. She had scolded and beat her own sister and got angry on her own mother just for his sake!
Until she was aged twelve years or so and moved away with her mother like that on that day, she used to come to that home. In the beginning she used to play cheerfully with Madan, Vineet, Mamatha and Madhuri. But later on she found out how rich they were and she noticed the necessity to maintain distance to herself and other riffraff. In her opinion Vineet was a riffraff and an orphan. Madan’s family was unnecessarily allowing him to stay in their home.
As he was thinking about Sukanya like that his mind without his intention projected the form of Sukanya when he had last seen. She was just leaving her adolescence and entering into maturity. The irony was despite her haughtiness and arrogance, she appeared quite beautiful to him. Jayanthi resembled mostly her mother and he heard through Jayanthi and her mother that Sukanya inherited most of his father’s features and he was a very handsome person. Her breasts were developing and pointed up. She was becoming a complete woman by that time itself.
The thoughts of her were disturbing and he did not know how to get rid of them. He was thinking very furiously about how to behave with Sukanya when he confronted with her. It would be quite better if he had not seen her at all but it would not be possible. Sooner or later he had to see her and how she was going to behave with him as well was a puzzle. What type of change the passage of these eight long years got in her he did not know. She might have become more arrogant and haughty or might have realized her mistakes and turned good.
Anyhow the news that Sukanya was coming to their house made him feel uncomfortable.

Susmitha came out of the house saying that she wanted to go to the temple and immediately got accord to that. She felt uneasy walking alone on the streets as the villagers looking at her strangely. She just walked a little distance when Nagaraju came across her. She instantly recognized him and became even more uneasy.
“Where are you going?” slitting his eyes he asked.
She got irritation by being questioned by him so. It was indeed becoming difficult to her to find any human features behind his beard. But she knew the connection he had got with Mamatha. She further knew if she behaved rudely with him it would have an adverse indirect effect on Madan.
“Into the tope. Mamatha asked me to meet her there.” She said with a small voice.
“I think you remember well what Mamatha asked you.” Looking straight into her eyes he asked.
Remembering that, she felt shuddered. “Yes I remember.” She answered.
“He must weep. Atleast once. That is the condition. You agreed.” He said.
She nodded her head. “Please ask Mamatha to keep her promise.” With a pleading in her eyes she asked.
“If you adhere to what she has said she sure keeps her promise. I guarantee that to you.” The assurance in his voice made her a little satisfied.

By the time Sukanya entered into the house there were only Jayanthi and Madan present in it. Jayanthi warmly welcomed her. Sukanya was as usual dressed in her tight jeans but Jayanthi could see massive change in her which was reflecting all over her.
“How is mother? How did your journey go for you?” making her sit in a chair in the kitchen Jayanthi asked.
“She is like a spring. Don’t worry about her at all. For your second question, the journey went so good for me. I have enjoyed it all the way.” After saying so she started sipping the coffee given to her.
“Madan puts lot of hopes on you. He sure would have told everything to you.” Jayanthi too sat opposite to her sister with a coffee cup in her hand.
Sukanya made another sip. The hot coffee scorched her lips and throat before settling warmly in her stomach “He did not say much. All he said to me was that his girlfriend came to this house and she is in some psychological trouble. I pressed him to say more but he said to me only that much. He did not like to divulge more information than that in phone.”
“Did he say atleast that he is in love with that girl?” with a smile on her lips Jayanthi asked.
“Is it is so? It is indeed wonderful news!” Then her face suddenly changed its colour. “What happened to that Mamatha?”
“Better you know all about that from himself.”
“Where is his girlfriend now?”
“She went to the temple. She may come back at any moment.”
“Where is Madan?”
“In his room.”
“I shall go and talk to him now.” Sukanya got off from the chair and put the finished coffee cup on the dining table.

Madan indeed felt quit happier when he had seen Sukanya in his room. He got up from the chair and went near to her. Looking straight into his face Sukanya understood that he was feeling uneasy for something.
“How do you do? It is indeed after a very long time I am seeing you.” On one or two occasions Madan went to Suaknaya’s home and saw her there. It was one year or so before that he had seen her for the last time. There was not much change in her from then to now.
“I am quite fine.” Observing him minutely she said. She went onto the bed there and sat on it. “But you are appearing uneasy and upset. What happened?”
“You have just come to our home. Why do we go into those details straight now?” Madan breathed heavily.
“No. I must know everything as fast as possible. I don’t like you are feeling bad. I am thinking that I can hundred percent be helpful to you.” squatting on the bed and leaning on the wall there she said.
