Learn To Accept Facts of Harsh Realities

***

Preamble: I am saying we all should be ready and sensitive enough to accept the facts of harsh and hard realities. I am NOT saying we should accept the harsh realities per say. In fact we should not approve of such terrible and horrible events.

Awareness is important, and ignorance is not a bliss at all here. Whether we are able to do anything or not, it is another important question, and needs a lot of separate discussion; i.e. what to do and how to do, and when to do; if at all we can do anything.

***

We all want to be happy and remain so for ever. More so we want to enjoy life and remain joyful for ever. We want our parents and children also to be joyful always.

There is nothing wrong in this, and in fact it is fundamental and true nature of all the humans, to say in nicer words of the entire humanity, to gain more and more happiness and joy.

While this is our wish, want and desire, which is absolutely logical; there are very hard facts in our lives, of which we should not be ignorant.

**

We the Indians got independence from the British rule of nearly 300 years, after and as a result of great struggle by our fore fathers, and freedom fighters, including Gandhiji, Subhashchandra Bose, and others. Thousands of lives were sacrificed; forget about the loss of properties, jobs, and opportunities to grow. For those years we were slaves. If you have courage, then only recall the Jalianwala bagh incident.

In some parts of Europe, the believers of themselves being of superior race, thousands of innocent people including women were harassed and killed; in concentration camps, and gas chambers. In Russia, similar camps were functional around the same time, and even later on. Much of these had happened before World War II.

There were certain races, and communities who did not have their own countries. Still in this century, a similar situation seems to exist.

However, in case of such and many more similar and gruesome events, in India and the world; ignorance is not bliss at all. Not, when in the current, and in near past, several similar, if not so wild and cruel, but still ‘cannot-be-ignored-kind’ of events have occurred, and still occurring in our vicinity, in our own country. Innocent people are being killed, young girls have been raped and laypersons have been beaten up; many of the latter are workers, lower middle class bread earners, and daily wagers. These kind of things happen in several countries, irrespective of their political systems, and faith in religion followed by the both, the ruler and ruled.

We need to be alert and aware of such happenings, even if these might be disappointing, and depressing, and might not be to our liking. I believe that every Indian is affected by the after effects of such bad events, in a short or long run/time.

**

There were and/or are several such hard facts in our own and other countries, in 20th, 21st centuries:

1. In certain jails, the rice and dal served as meals had/have insects/worms. (This is based on a study by a highly respectable senior police officer who was posted to this jail).

2. People are arrested, and put in jails without charge sheets filed. After some months, they are released. These people would lose work, jobs, and their earnings. (Based on news-media reports).

You can imagine, if your close relative, who you think is innocent and jailed, and he/she is given meals as in item 1) above, what good life you both would have?

3. When a prime minister was murdered by her own security guards, the riots erupted, and nearly three thousand people of a certain community were killed, because they belonged to the same sect as the guards.

4. One rail bogy was completely burnt with the passengers inside. Then, riots erupted and nearly three thousand people of both the sects were killed, the majority being of the suspected community who might have burnt the bogy.

5. Some religion/religious fanatics of a certain community damaged/destroyed certain monuments belonging to some other community.

6. Many similar, and more gruesome events have happened (in Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, South Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan,...), and even now happening in these and some other countries, and even in our own country.

**

Certainly, a sensible citizen belonging to any section of our society, would not approve of such heinous acts, carried out by our brethren (Please do not take it on your ‘own’ persons).

Then, the lives of the people who are badly affected due to these ghastly happenings are not at all beautiful. They suffer, and their parents, and innocent children also suffer: loss of limbs/lives, properties, and jobs; loss of their pride of belonging to their country of birth; and loss of sense of security/safety.

What kind of these humans are who inflict such injuries on some innocent citizens, and cause pain in their hearts?

Why they do this, what they want, and with all that where they want go? They are misguided souls, who have no idea of life's real beauty.

And we call ourselves, a higher level species, what a shame!

**

It does not give any right or privilege to:

1. Rich to exploit poor people.

2. Employers to exploit and mistreat the employees.

3. Land lords to overpower the hired farmers, and workers.

4. Any government to hurt the sentiments of any community of the country.

5. Any strong person to bully any weak person.

When there are riots, even good and nice denizens loot the shops, and take pride in taking stolen goods home, even children would join. What kind of religion-practicing families are these!

All those who do not follow the above points, and many more, are socially insensitive people.

There are several such harsh realities, and hard facts, which we often do not like to read, or know, or to be reminded of.

We just want to live a happy life, and see/read the things/events that are pleasing to our senses. In fact it is logical for us to know of very nice things and hear nice stories.

But, the fact of our life is that; even though the life on this planet is really beautiful; (as is in abundance in the nature: colourful birds, insects, underwater sea animals, beautiful and colourful flowers, colourful varieties of animals in the forests, rainbow, and colossal cosmos with billions of starts, and so on…); and our own mothers who are full of care, affection, and love, and many more ‘souls’ around us who take immense care of us; often, we are faced with hard realities, and we should take cognizance of these, lest we will not be able to relate to this, when such things happen to us or our relatives and friends.

Better to follow a 'problem oriented' approach rather than 'too much optimistic' approach.

**

We should continue to live the life the way we want to live with as much happiness and joy as we can, but it is better to be aware of sheer practical facts of hard realities.

If you have courage, then only read the following books:

1. Interrogating My Chandal Life, By Manoranjan Byapari.

2. Last Girl, By Nadia Murad.
