Can We Imagine the world without the Sun or the Moon

Can We Imagine the world without the Sun or the Moon

We on this planet earth are lucky to see the sun and the moon daily in our sky . However in some parts of the world nearer to both the poles like Norway , Finland etc. and the southern pole at Antartica , people might miss the sun or the moon for a couple of months . During this period they have only days or nights but never any part on the earthś surface has missed both the sun and the moon altogether . Both are indispensable for life on our planet and are responsible for our weather .

Imagine world without the sun

1 . Think of a day when you get up as usual in the morning and find still its cold and dark night all around you . Except when you are on the poles you might have experienced life without the sun for a couple of months .

2. There will be no moon in the sky as the moon is visible only due to reflection of sunlight

3. Solar power will no longer be available to us and we can survive for some time with available electricity as long as power lasts . But how long ? Power will not last for ever , of course .

4 . The mass of the sun is several thousand times more ( 333000 times ) than the earthś mass and its gravitational force or pull keeps the other planets locked . All planets are orbiting around the sun in their fixed elliptical orbit . Without the sun all the planets will fly off in a straight line and collide with something in their path ( asteroids , planets , comets ) and create chaos in the solar system . The earth might be like a billiard boardś corner pocket with eight balls in it .

5 . Tiny planets might be sucked into the black holes . Our milky way is estimated to have 100 billion stars and almost the same blackholes too .

6 . Sun heats our earth's temperature just enough to live on the earth . Within a few days of sunś disappearance the earth temperature will fall to 0 C and further far below in the coming days . The earth will freeze and so will we .

7 . For cultivation and plants and vegetables to grow , we need sunlight . There will be no photosynthesis without sun rays and plants will die and even animals too will die as many animals survive on plants and vegetables . This will ultimately affect our life and the very survival .

8 . The ocean surface will freeze . The marine life in the ocean or sea will be adversely affected because they will miss the warmth .

9 . Though it will take thousands of years for the entire ocean to freeze but marine life at the floor of the oceans will still survive for thousands of years and possibly humans too , if we happen to live there . This is because of geothermal vents at the floor of the ocean . These vents emit heat that emerges from the centre of the earth .

10 . The earth will be an ice world and the atmosphere too will freeze and possibly collapse on the earth and in turn the earth will be exposed to radiation from space .

Imagine world without the moon

Imagine a situation when on a particular day the world is without a moon , what would be the world then . Normally we on this earth can see only one moon but actually there are more than 200 moons , some big and some small in our solar system . All planets including earth have moons orbiting around them . Saturn and Jupitar have most numbers of moons while our earth has only one moon .

Now what things can happen without moon in the world -

1 . The word month itself has been derived from the moon as many calendars in the world are made out on the basis of changing phases of the moon .

2 . Nights will become more darker , we might be unable to see our own hands . Other planet Venus will be the brightest but yet not bright enough to illuminate the entire sky .Every night will be as dark as the new moon and star gazing will be more enjoyable .

3 . There will be no eclipse as the moon will not be present to block the sun .

4 . Romantic poets and lovers will starve for missing the moon

5. No spacecrafts, no astronauts and further exploration of the universe might not be possible .

6 . Inclination of the earth axis will vary and so weather might be unpredictable or extreme . It is difficult to imagine the evolution of life .

7 . Earth will spin with more speed which will cause shorter days on earth may be 6 - 12 hours .There will be thousand or more days in a year and in due course days will pass by just a blink . Both the earth and the moon exert gravitational force or pull on each other .

8 . The moon also affects the speed of wind , the wind will be much faster disrupting our life .

9 . Due to absence of moonś pull the ocean tides will become much smaller . The tides will be affected by only the pull of the sun . The sun is far away and its overall pull will be smaller and high tides will be shorter ( one third ) and low tides too will be shorter . Remember it is said that life originated from tidal waters of the oceans . So prospects of marine life will be poorer . Earthś rotation is slowed down due to tidal friction . Days will be longer though extremely slowly . Ocean tides also affect depth of coastal water .

10 . The moon is said to affect many things such as insanity , animalś behaviour , agriculture and even womenś period cycle ( scientists don’t agree with last one ). It is just a coincidence that both the moonś rotational cycle and womenś period cycle are almost the same . Some animals and birds who hunt in the dark like owls, bats and lions will suffer .

11 . The asteroids which are pulled into the moon by its gravitational force might impact the earth . Some are too big to cause devastating effects on our life on the earth .

Bottomline - It’s just an imagination . Life on the earth without the sun or the moon will not be liveable .
