A MOMENTS WEAKNESS
When I next saw Ellis it was at the airport. With last times events, she'd gone silent, too silent, isolated. Jordan didn't care,he'd bought off a couple more women to satisfy his hunger. Now when the vacation was over he didn't even notice she wasn't there to get in his jet. The weather started to get harsh and I was afraid to approach her,she sat down in the airport looking defeated and lost, blocking the outside world completely. "Flight 53 has been cancelled due to sudden changes of weather.......",the communicator said. She sighed as she was pulled back into reality, that was her flight, she tried negotiating and finding some alternative but the attendants where of no help.
"Why didn't you go home with him?" I said sitting closer to her.
She looked up to me. "Avery what are you doing here?".
"I'm going to take you home" I stood up and carried her luggage.
"HOW? Theirs no flights leaving soon and I don't have money for a hotel room, your father basically stripped me of anything". She was frustrated and yelling.
I touched her shoulders. "It's either you trust me or sleep here. You know I'd never let anything bad happen to you so please Elly come with me".
She was unsure but we walked out together. What I had in mind was a surprise, something I'd told August to do for me before they left, booking a cruise ship. We got in a taxi that took us to the ship dock's. "This is how we'll get home?" She was smiling.
"Unless you've another idea" I said jokingly
"How'd you even get tickets for this?"
"I've my ways". I smirked. "C'mon you've to see our room".
We entered, the place was heaven it'd this massive chandeliers and fancy halls, call it a water hotel. The rooms where massive, spacious and I booked the couples suites. She was just smiling as she walked around and embraced everything. "So what do you think?" I put my hands in my pockets feeling proud.
"It's wonderful. Sadly it's for a day" she was looking down.
"We could stay for a couple more days"
"Nooooooooo"
"It's like therapy without the talking. The ship goes around carrying tourists for 3 days then drops them off and carry other tourists. We could stay for 3 days"
"I've a feeling you planned this" she was facing me and smiling. "Thank you Arden". She hugged me. My heartbeat rose and she could sense it,she didn't let go of me. "I don't want to feel this way" she whispered.
"We could run,it's like he'll try to find us" I muttered.
"I took vows with him" she was clinging to my shirt.
"He doesn't care about you"
"And I'm supposed to believe you?"
"I'm not putting in a good word for me but ever since you came into my life something changed,I don't function around you and all I care about is your safety. I love you Ellis"
"I don't want to rush into this"
I kissed her and she held on tight to me.
The next morning was bright, Ellis in my arms and I was smiling something I never knew I'd ever witness, she opened her eyes and smiled at me. We went for breakfast then enjoyed what the cruise could offer, the pools, the pub and the meals the chefs made. "Excuse me sir, we've a couples massage if you want?" The nice hostess asked.
"We're not a ........" Ellis stopped herself and looked around, puzzled.
"C'mon don't say you're not a couple", another woman chimed in. "You guys look amazing together.
She glanced around, "well would you like the massage?" She smiled while offering me her hand. We followed the hostess into a big room with dim lighting, we changed into robes and took a spot.
"The goal is to feel your partners body, loosen it and make the body feel comfortable in your hands, in your own body. Women grab your man's shoulders and caress them gently, shoulders carry tension, let the man give in to you......" The instructor kept talking.
Ellis slowly raised her hands to me and begun massaging my neck, shoulders and the back of my ears. This feeling that I was feeling now was something I wanted to hold forever and never have to give up. I held her waist and she smiled at me. Then the lights came on everyone looked around and my eyes fell on the front, Jordan. He started to argue with the instructor and Ellis grew tensed and afraid, she wanted to hide and I tried to comfort her but she neglected me until he sighted us and she stood up. With every move he took she knew she couldn't hide or run,it was over for her she just didn't know her punishment, I stood up as he approached her and he faced me. "Go home Avery. NOW!" His raspy voice demanded.
"No" I took Ellis's hand.
"You're my son Avery and I'd hate to make a decision that destroys you right now. Take her away boys" he demanded again. My eyes fell on the police men who'd been standing by him the entire time. Then they touched her. "Why are you arresting her?" My heart started to pound fast.
"Kidnapping. I control you Avery don't forget that" Jordan walked out of there like nothing happened.
"Please Avery do something" Ellis cried as she was taken away and I stood there and watched. Like a coward.
I opened my eyes and the time read 8:45am, I stared at the ceiling thinking about Ellis who was in jail now while I was home enjoying what life would offer. I pushed the pillow aside and got up hoping to bail her out but the doubts still remained. How could I be so stupid without even defending her? I'm old enough to take care of myself, maybe I'm emotionally attached to my father...... The questions kept flooding as I pulled into the driveway at the station. My hands grew cold and I shivered, like I wasn't meant to be there but I'd no choice. I pulled the door open and eerily silence followed inside, all the eyes landed on me while mine fell on Jordan.
"What's going on?" I asked in alow calm voice
Jordan sat down and looked down the officers patting his back. "She's gone" he sobbed.
"Gone? What do you mean gone?" My hands grew colder.
"She was found dead. Natural causes they said"
"Natural causes". I laughed a laugh of I'm not buying this, laughter filled with pain and despair. "You killed her"
"She was my wife you fool"
"You knew she was falling for me and you killed her"
He stood up. "Get the body cremated and bring me the ashes" he said to one of the officers who simply nodded.
"I want to see the body" I demanded.
"She wasn't your mother. Go home Avery".
"Home is the woman you just killed. And what the ashes are a trophy huh?"
He shrugged and left.
I walked back to my car feeling helpless and useless. I brought this upon myself,is what kept moving in my head. I wasn't a man, I was meant to protect her but instead I pushed further into the hands of a monster. And now I didn't know if she was really dead.
