A CRYING SOUL

A CRYING SOUL

Lying on the white fur of the frozen Himalayas he stared at his hands, Rough and turned blue in the cold. The freezing temperature and the biting wind numbed his body. The snow which makes one's heart dance with joy was covered with red stains, stains of his pure, brave and indefatigable blood. His eyes never leaving the sight of his hands had a shine in them.

The pair of those glassy turned eyes were saying something to the blowing wind. There was warmth and pride in them, holding back the tears they said something to the gush of wind that made him shiver. As if it was meant to be delivered somewhere, the message went with the wind somewhere down the mountains.

The pair of eyes were holding pride, sacrifice, love, kindness, but not fear. They were fearless and though he was lying numb all alone ,he wasn't feared of anything or anyone. The eyes which were turning misty had some dreams ,small dreams to be lived in a small but a beautiful world. Those eyes had memories, memories of his beloved ones,of his good times and also of his bad times.

Those hands at which he was staring, trembling and weak ,once used to be as strong as an iron rod.He was unable to move them but they were not dead, they still had the power to lift up the rocks but second by second he was loosing all of it.

Those hands had once holded the thick fingers of his father or wrapped them around his mother's lap.The back which was all numb by now once used to be as strong as a bull's. It had carried numerous weights on it without any hesitation. The desensitized legs were lying lifeless had covered the distance of miles.

They had made him stand fearless to protect the living kind. But right now, they were lying lifeless and were of no help to him.He realized that he would never be using all of these after some time. The thought made the glassy thing in his eyes broke down into million pieces and tears trailed down his cheeks.

The warmth of those tears disappeared as they mixed with the snow beneath his face.As if it was the place they had belonged to.His warm breathe was turning cold by colliding in the air around him. If everything was going where it belonged to then why was he lying there all alone?

Closing his eyes he thought of the one who must be waiting for him.His tears started flowing again after he realized that this might be the last chance when he was remembering her. Thoughts emerged from the back of his mind and he started sobbing recalling the time he had spent with her.

"Jassi" he breathed out her name with all the pain he was holding. He felt a lump forming in his throat which led to the pool of tears in his eyes. With a gasp he managed to open his eyes and then again stared at his motionless hands. As the mist cleared from his eyes ,he managed to look at the ring he was wearing. It was his engagement ring and also the promise that he had made to his Jassi.

He had promised her to be with her no matter what happens, but now he was breaking his promise. He knew it that she is going to cry and her sad face came to his view which made his heart thud with pain. He knew it that it was going to end now ,his life, he was going to die. But all he wanted was to be with them, just for once.

He served the people for whom he was a stranger, but for him those people were his family. He was awake all night so that his family could sleep. He ran through the woods carrying pounds on his back so that his family could walk on the roads safely. He skipped his meals to guard the borders for his family to eat peacefully. He fought for the safety of his people and nation,he shed his blood to keep his people safe.

He left his beloved ones and kept them waiting for him.He served them but nobody knew he was lying there all alone, frozen and nearly dead. Only the old eyes of his parents were waiting for their son to come home.Only the wet eyes of his Jassi were waiting for him to come and wrap her in his arms. Only this family cried and the ones he had served for were happy being safe.

Her voice echoed in his head " Come home soon,I'll be waiting for you".

And with that, wincing in pain and breathing for the last time he said, "JAI HIND" .

He went home wrapped in the national flag, they showered flowers and muttered prayers and said "REST IN PEACE JAWAN" but his soul was stuck around crying in pain as he saw his beloved shattering.

He was no actor or any star who gets paid for their performances. He was the one who carried stars on his shoulders with pride. He was a SOLDIER and a server of INDIAN ARMY.
